Urban Transportation Benchmarking Partnership
The NYU Wagner Rudin Center for Transportation Policy and Management, with funding from the New York State Assembly, has initiated the project Urban Transportation Benchmarking Partnership. The purpose of the project is to establish relationships with foreign transportation agencies and academics with whom to have a mutually profitable and on-going exchange of ideas about issues such as new technologies, innovative approaches to funding transportation investments, best practices, and/or effective operating procedures in cities comparable to New York.

The goal is to develop sustained relationships with partner cities, with the expectation that the sharing of innovative ideas can help improve decision-making by providing top level managers at transportation agencies in New York State with the tools they need to manage and make more informed decisions in the transportation arena. To date, three partner cities have been selected: Istanbul, Mexico City and Seoul. These particular megacities were selected because they share many of the New York region's circumstances and challenges and have relevant innovations to share with us.

On December 4th, 2008, the NYU Wagner Rudin Center convened a meeting for representatives of transportation and planning agencies in the New York metropolitan region and those from the three current partner cities. Links to the papers and presentations from the partner cities are provided below. Following the presentations, there was an active discussion of how each city's lessons learned may be applied by the others. In order to support this collaboration into the future, the NYU Wagner Rudin Center will explore how to develop an online structure to promote the continued dialogue and exchange of ideas among partner cities.
