The Rudin Center for Transportation Policy & Management at the New York University (NYU) Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service held the 6th Annual Tri-State Transit Symposium on Tuesday, October 18, 2005. The focus of the symposium was "National and Regional Transit Security and the Financial Future of Transit in the Region."

With the recent reauthorization of the federal transportation bill, SAFTEA-LU, signed by the President in August and the current debate over the upcoming Bond Act, we are in a critical period when major decisions will be made affecting the future of transit in the New York metropolitan region. Hanging in the balance is the need to not only maintain a transit system in a "state of good repair," but to also expand system capacity and improve customer service while ensuring security in one of the largest systems in the world.
