Think about your application both as individual components and as a whole.

What does each component say about you and how do they all add up? Does the application package truly convey who you are and why you are right for Wagner and why Wagner is right for you?

The NYU Wagner Admissions Review Committee cares about fit.

Did you mention why you think you would be a good fit here at Wagner both academically and culturally? After reading your personal statement, would the Admissions Review Committee be able to answer these simple questions: Why you? Why Wagner? And why now?

Your recommendations should tell us more than what other parts of your applications already tell us.

For example, does the recommender know you beyond a grade (if academic reference) and beyond a title (if professional reference)? Can they speak to your commitment for public service and how your analytical abilities position you for success both here at Wagner and in your career after Wagner? Can they cite an example where you demonstrated leadership qualities or tremendous leadership potential?

Demonstrate your ability to handle quantitative coursework.

If you did not take a lot of quantitative coursework during your undergraduate degree, or if you did take them but didn’t perform as well, seriously consider submitting your GRE scores. We do not require the GRE scores but if submitted, we would like to see that you at least, at a minimum, are above the average percentile.

Show us your commitment.

When drafting your resume, make sure you list clearly for us any public service work that you’ve done – whether it was paid, volunteer, full-time or part-time. We want to know that you are committed to doing the work of public importance and have evidence to back that up.

Contact your recommenders

If you’re not sure whether they have submitted your recommendations letters yet, send them a gentle reminder of the deadlines, and thank them for their time.

Upload scanned unofficial transcripts into the online application

Before submitting the online application, it is a requirement of admission that transcripts be scanned and uploaded into the online application. Transcripts submitted after the application deadline will not be accepted. Failure to complete this requirement may result in withdrawal of an application. Official transcripts will be requested upon admission into the program.

Check your statements for any typos.

If you’re applying to multiple Master’s programs, remember to change your statements to refer to NYU Wagner correctly.
